Shirley Zipp, age 86, N11667 Lamer Road, Tomahawk, passed away Monday, December 26, 2011 at Walnut Grove in Merrill under hospice care. Shirley was born November 29, 1925 in Antigo, the daughter of Jess and Dorothy "Dolly" (Young) Armstrong, and raised by Dolly and Joseph Koelzer. She was married to Donald Berzill; he died in 1991. She later married Robert "Bob" Zipp in October 1994 in Tennessee. Shirley was an executive secretary for many years in both the manufacturing industry and in the public school system in Illinois. Following her retirement, she moved to the Tomahawk area in 1977. She was employed with Peterson Health Care in Rhinelander for 15 years. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Tomahawk, and volunteered at St. Mary's School for many years. Shirley loved children, and enjoyed playing "Santa's Elf" at Christmastime. Shirley also had a special love of animals, and was a Harley-Davidson enthusiast. Survivors include: Husband Bob Zipp Tomahawk Daughter Susan (Dave) Ruten Tomahawk Brother Doug Armstrong Pewaukee Granddaughters Amy (Jim) Riedemann Madison Jennifer (Jeff) Swan Tomahawk Kathryn (Tony) Rizzo Minocqua Great grandchildren Regan, Molly, Devin, Douglas, Camryn, and Quin Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, first husband - Don, grandson - Douglas Ruten, and 3 brothers. A Mass of Christian Burial for Shirley Zipp will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 30, 2011 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Tomahawk. Fr. John Anderson will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Tomahawk.
