STEVE WARGA
Steve A. Warga, 91, Phillips, died in the Aspirus Pleasant View Nursing Home in Phillips on Friday, September 20, 2019. He was born in the Town of Emery on February 8, 1928, the son of John and Anna (Danko) Warga. He attended East Highland School and then farmed with his parents. He was married to Mary Polacek in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Phillips on June 24, 1950. They farmed until 1957 when he purchased and then operated the City Dray Line freight business. He later worked at Takco Manufacturing, Phillips Auto Central, and then at Phillips Plastics Corporation until the time of his retirement in 1994. He was a member of Saint Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church of Phillips, served as Chairman of the Town of Emery for 4 years, and served on the Price County Board of Supervisors for 4 years. In his free time he enjoyed woodworking.
He is survived by Mary, his wife of 69 years; by two daughters, Susan (Greg) Hawkins, Hammond, WI, and Peggy-Sazzy (Oskar Granquist) Calhoun, California and Minnesota; by four grandchildren, Alex, Jill, Hayley, and Luke; by three great grandchildren, Colin, Natalie, and Brooke; by two nephews, Ralph and Andy Jr; by one niece, Delores; and by great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; by five brothers, John, George, Andrew, and two infant brothers; by one granddaughter, Kelley Katherine; by one nephew, Donald; and by one niece, Susan Marie.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 27, at Saint Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church with Father Lourdu Raju Madanu celebrating the Funeral Mass. Interment will be in the Saint Patrick Cemetery in Phillips. Friends may call at the church on Friday, September 27, from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
