On Friday, October 30, 2020, Steven R. Sorenson lost his battle with Covid-19 and passed away at age 74 in Palm Springs, CA.
Steven was born on April 2, 1946 to Robert and Carol Sorenson in Tomahawk, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Carl and survived by his son Todd (DeAnna) Anaheim, CA, his granddaughters Sierra & Brooke, his brother Robert (Dori), Superior, WI, and his sister-in-law Lorna Sorenson, Brookfield, WI.
Steven graduated from Tomahawk High School in 1964 and joined the United States Army. After an early discharge, he married Vicky Kott and had a son, Todd, born in 1967. After a divorce he relocated to California in 1969. During his life he enjoyed living in many places including San Francisco, Chicago, San Diego, Palm Springs, Greece & Belize with multiple periods of residency in Tomahawk in between. He was a pioneer in the coffee trade and opened The Daily Grind in San Francisco in 1977. After selling his business, he enjoyed working for Amtrak before retiring in 1997. He was an activist for gay rights and in 2004 succeeded in a long battle to have his discharge from the Army amended to honorable and his benefits reinstated.
Steven will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery in Tomahawk, with services pending in the spring.
