OBITUARY FOR SUSAN A. POUPART
Susan Ann Poupart, resident of Country Terrace Assisted Living in Minocqua, WI passed away July 26, 2023 at the age of 86 after prolonged illness. She was born in the Rhinelander Hospital February 7, 1937 to Evelyn (nee Means) and Gerald Knight. A vast majority of her life was lived in the Lakeland Area of northern Wisconsin.
Sue’s father was the Operating Engineer for the State Camp in Lake Tomahawk so many of Sue’s earliest memories were of life at the camp. When she was sixteen, her family moved to Dolhun’s Resort when her father took a job there. Because Sue was very close with her parents and extended family, she fondly reminisced of the loving relationships she had in her youth with her friends, parents and beloved aunt, Helen Evans.
After Sue’s graduation from Arbor Vitae-Woodruff High School in 1955 she enrolled in St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Racine where she earned her nursing degree. She worked in Racine for two years and accepted a position at the Lakeland Hospital in 1960 where she worked alongside Drs. Farrington, Ashe and Hyatt. Those days were the highlight of her career. She later worked in Quality Assurance, Billing and Patient Accounting at Howard Young Hospital until her retirement in 2002.
Sue married William (Bill) Poupart in 1962 and they had one son, William Gerald Poupart. After the marriage ended, Sue devoted her life to her career and her family.
If wealth was determined by the number of friends one has, Sue would, indeed, have been a rich lady; she is missed by so many. She had a wry sense of humor which endeared her to her schoolmates, colleagues from the hospital and neighbors from her former residences in Arbor Vitae, St. Germain and Phelps. Sue adored her pet dogs and cats, was an avid reader and stamp collector and she truly enjoyed organizing reunions with her high school classmates.
Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Aunt Helen Evans, and her son, Willian “Bill” Gerald Poupart. She is survived by her grandson, William John Poupart, his wife, Justice Stone-Allen, their two daughters, Lillian and Mary Rose, granddaughter, Emily Poupart, devoted friends, Billie Keelin and Hannah Dana and dozens of former classmates, colleagues and neighbors. A private Celebration of Life Service will be held at Nimsgern Funeral and Cremation Service in Woodruff, WI. Invitees will be contacted personally. Susan’s remains will rest with her family at Wilderness Rest Cemetery in Lake Tomahawk, WI.
Special appreciation is extended to Marshfield Medical Center for the state of the art care in Sue’s final days.
