SYLVIA ROSE TOM
Sylvia Rose Tom, 96, Town of Worcester, died on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Phillips while under the care of Flambeau Home Health and Hospice.
She was born to Vendell and Rose (Vasa) Pass in Phillips on March 21, 1923.. Sylvia lived her entire life in Phillips, graduating from Phillips High School in 1941. After graduation, Sylvia married Fred Tom Sr, the love of her life, and enjoyed 63 years of marriage. To this marriage was born five children, Sally, Fred Jr., Charlotte, Robert, and Gene Sr. She was always very proud of her children and would tell anyone so.
Sylvia and Fred farmed for many years in the Town of Worcester, milking cows and later being involved with their son’s beef operation. She was extremely proud of the family farm being a century old farm! She loved farming; it was in her blood. She enjoyed gardening and was always well known for her beautiful flowers. She loved nothing better than cooking and baking for her husband and family. She loved baking kolache’s and entered kolache’ baking contests in her later years, winning many times over the years. She was known for her “cinnamon twist”, a most requested item by her grandchildren and great grandchildren especially.
As time passed, in her later years, Sylvia moved to Pleasant View Nursing Home and became involved with being the Resident Council President. She was involved with many of the activities they offered, being interviewed for stories and even interviewed by a local television station. Mom was famous!
Sylvia is survived by her five children, Sally Tongusi, Slinger, WI, Fred Jr. (Jo), Oxford, WI, Charlotte (Steven) Janacek, Phillips, Robert (Karen), Mount Dora, FL, and Gene Sr. (Gayle), Phillips; by 13 grandchildren and many great great grandchildren, and by great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her Husband, Fred Sr., on July 5, 2005; and was also preceded in death by her brothers, Wendell Pass, George Pass, John Pass; and by her sister, Mary Stark,
Sylvia lived her life to the fullest; hers was a life well lived. Her family will miss her so, she is now “Home” with Dad.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 1, at Saint Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church in Phillips with Father Gerald Hagen celebrating the Funeral Mass. Inurnment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Phillips. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
