Thomas H Jahn

Thomas Jahn, age 73, passed away on June 20, 2017 at his home in Tomahawk.

Thomas was born on March 28, 1944 in Town of Granville, Milwaukee to Frank  & LaVerne Jahn. He was confirmed at St Johns in Glendale, WI on March 25, 1958.

He worked at his father’s lathing & plastering business & at a young age enjoyed hunting with his father in Lincoln County.

Tom attended (M.I.T) Milwaukee & Stout State University where he met his wife Shirley. They were married August 19, 1967 at  St. Paul Lutheran Church, Tomah, WI Tom worked  as a Fire Protection Engineer in the insurance industry (FIA ,Hartford Steam Boiler, Wausau Ins.) specializing in Boiler Inspection & was president of the  Society of Fire Protection Engineers.  Tom and Shirley lived in Menomonee Falls for 10 years where their 3 sons were born before they took a company transfer to Brea, Ca. They lived for over 3 years in California.  Tom built his lake cabin in Tomahawk, WI following a return to WI living in West Bend for 38 years. Tom was a soccer coach, Boy Scout leader, Elder-Pilgrim Lutheran Church & assisted his wife Shirley as a Realtor. He loved golfing, hunting with his Dad & sons up north & traveling with his family.

Mayo Clinic confirmed his ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis)  in 2008. Tom and Shirley sold their West Bend home in 2013 & moved into the cabin which was more suited for his mobility needs & his love of the North. They kept busy finishing the cabin, trips to visit their sons in Eric in Florida, Jeff in Oregon and Tommy in southern Wisconsin. Travels included to Puerto Rico, California, S. Dakota  & Tom's Alaskan Princess Cruise. Tom & Shirley basically spent every day together of the past 4 years in the Northwoods. He was always mobile via his "Bentley", scooters & canes till his last steps before falling asleep in Jesus' arms. Heaven gained a very special angel, full of energy, love for God, his family & friends of whom he had many.  Spending time with Stout friends of 50 years were treasured times. His smile, wit & general love of life will leave a void for all but the memories he made for family, friends & all will never be forgotten. Tom and Shirley were looking forward to their 50th anniversary. Tom is sadly missed by his wife Shirley; sons Jeff (partner Laura), Eric (wife Sonia), Thomas R. (wife Danielle). Sisters in Laws- JoAnn Waege, Cherlyn (Don) Moseley & Sharon Olson. Toms life was enriched by Joanne Waege & Bruce Waege; JoAnn’s brother in law; son Benjamin (wife Christina), daughter Carri (Nick Ard). Cherlyn and Don, many nephews and nieces and friends, (Russ & Joy, Milo & Gretchen, Frank & Vicki). Everyone says they loved every minute spent with Tom, his great attitude & desire to enjoy life as it was.

His words were, "I have ALS but it was not going to define who I am". Tom no longer has ALS- He has Eternal life. God Bless You and Everyone you knew and loved.   Tom and Shirley were looking forward to their 50th Wedding Anniversary.
