Tom Charles Mix

Tom Charles Mix was born July 1, 1952 and died February 14, 2025 at the age of 72. Tom was born in Chicago, Illinois and was raised by his parents, Charles and Hildegard, on the South Side of Chicago in Cicero. Tom graduated from Morton East High School in 1970 and proudly reunited with his classmates for his 50th high school reunion a few years ago.

Tom lived in Southern California for about 10 years, working for a company that manufactured the first digital cash register machines, with Tom helping to program these machines and have his Japanese co-workers help him perfect conversational Japanese. Tom also worked for Panasonic near Chicago for many years as a computer/electronics technician, installing numerous new McDonald restaurant drive-thru systems, Fuddruckers point-of-sale systems, and new internet-based point-of-sale systems for Taco Bell.

Tom was a dedicated member of the Cross Country Cruisers Snowmobile Club, serving as a Groomer Operator. Tom’s Trail Boss Bill stated that Tom was the only Groomer who could groom the neighboring trails plus his own route and only be a half an hour late coming back. Tom was also involved in many fundraising activities in the club, including last year’s Snowmobile Raffle, successfully raising over $26,000. Tom also loved fishing & being out on the lake in his boat. Tom rode his Harley motorcycle all around the country, sometimes ending up at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota.

Tom loved his cat, Squeaker. Tom was very loved by all who spent time with him. Tom is survived by his daughter Denise (Chris) Brickler, son Christopher (Priscila) Mix, and grandsons Leonardo and Benjamin.

A celebration of life is being planned at Tom’s favorite watering hole, Slo’s Pub (where he was known as “The Root Beer King”), sometime after the snowmobiling season in April, to share memories of Tom and eat his favorite wings.
