WALTER KLIMOWSKI
Walter Stanley Klimowski, 90, Town of Harmony, died on Thursday, August 9, surrounded by his family at the Aspirus Pleasant View Nursing Home in Phillips while under the care of Flambeau Home Health and Hospice. He was born on the family farm in the Town of Harmony on October 28, 1927, the son of Joseph and Anna (Lach) Klimowski. He was married to Antoinette Tingo-Jasurda on August 28, 1965, in Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Phillips. He operated the family dairy farm in the Town of Harmony where he received the Quality Milk Award multiple times, and during his time there the farm achieved the Century Farm status. He also worked as a logger, which was work he truly enjoyed. He was a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church of Phillips and later of Saint Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church of Phillips, was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Father John Slowey Council 2963, as a younger man was a member of the Saint Mary’s Church Choir (where a fellow member, Toni, caught his eye), and served as a delegate of the Badger Breeders Association. In 2009 Toni and Walter were honored as the Knights of Columbus Diocesan Family of the Year. He was an active participant in the Red Cross Blood Drive, having donated over 14 gallons over the years., served as a volunteer for the Phillips Czech Fest, served as Price County Fairgrounds Superintendent, was a past 4H member, and participated in the Koinonia retreat.In his free time he was an avid bowler and enjoyed league bowling, enjoyed listening to music, fishing, hunting, and as a younger man, polka dancing. He loved watching deer in the field. He fed deer all winter and loved to count them and the number of wild turkeys that would show up. For many years he fed the birds all winter –sunflowers for the chickadees and nuthatches, tallow for the woodpeckers. He loved to feed hummingbirds all summer.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Toni; by six children, Gary (Marian) Jasurda, Lake Mills, WI, Joanne Sobieski, Chippewa Falls, WI, William Jasurda, Phillips, Carolyn (Jim) Gabay, Phillips, Connie (Jim) Haessly, Madison, WI, and Robert (Sue) Klimowski, Phillips; by 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and by one great great grandchild. He is preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Burnat, Sophie Tesmer, and Ann Sarna; and by four brothers, John, Tony, Stanley, and Frank.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 14, at Saint Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church in Phillips with Father Gerald Hagen celebrating the Funeral Mass, and K of C Council No. 2963 according fraternal rites. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 2:00 P.M. until the time of services. Interment will be in the Saint Patrick Cemetery in Phillips at a later date.
