Wayne Paul Paugel, Sr., age 81 of Lake Tomahawk, WI passed away at home the morning of November 9, 2015 after a long battle with lung cancer. He was born November 27, 1933 in Lake Tomahawk.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Isabelle; daughter, Celeste of Amherst, son Wayne Lawrence of Lake Tomahawk; daughter, Treve Ann of Weston; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and four sisters Shirley (Allen) Zeinert, Woodruff, Donna Hodges in Texas, Beverly (Lou) Trapp in California, and Sandee (Jerry) Richter, Lake Tomahawk. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Louella; his brother, Gerald; and his sister, Carol (Butterfield).
Wayne served on the U.S.S. Bushnell during the Korean Conflict and was an active member of Lake Tomahawk’s American Legion Post #318. He participated in the Honor Guard, and marched with other members of the Post in parades.
Wayne worked as a mason most of his adult life. He was a member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers for fifty-two years. Wayne built residential structures as an independent contractor, but also worked for large firms constructing churches, medical facilities, and government buildings. Numerous memorials in the Lake Tomahawk area are evidence of Wayne’s craft.
Wayne had a fun-loving spirit and was an avid outdoorsman. He was one of the original Snowshoe Baseball players and continued his affiliation with the organization as an umpire until the age of 78. Wayne enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, bowling, and dancing with his wife of 62 years.
A celebration of Wayne’s life will take place at Nimsgern Funeral Home Chapel in Woodruff. Visitation will be from 10 – 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 12, with a Service at 10:30 AM and light lunch following the Honor Guard Ceremony. Cremation will follow.
