Willard 'Bud' Hupfer

Willard 'Bud' Hupfer, age 90, 414 S. Tomahawk Ave., Tomahawk, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Seasons of Life Hospice in Woodruff. Bud was born June 23, 1923 in South Milwaukee, the son of Fred and Minnie (Kerwin) Hupfer. He married Jean Miedner on September 6, 1947 in Milwaukee; she passed away on May 4, 1994. Bud served his country in the Navy for 7 years on one of the Unholy Four of Macarthur's Island Hoppers in the South Pacific. Following active duty, he served in the Navy Reserves for 20 years as Lieutenant Senior Grade. Bud was a proud veteran, and participated in the Tomahawk honor guard and firing squad since 1971. He formerly served as Director of the VFW and was Past Commander for the American Legion. Bud was a graduate of Marquette University. Prior to moving to Tomahawk in 1969, Bud was a Comptroller at several manufacturing companies in the Milwaukee area. He owned and operated the Hupfer Liquor Store in Tomahawk, was the Tomahawk City Clerk for 9 years. Bud was a past president of the Tomahawk Chamber of Commerce and the Tomahawk Lions Club. Bud was an active member of Redeemer Ev. Lutheran Church in Tomahawk, and was a choir member for many years. In his spare time, Bud enjoyed fishing. Survivors include, children, Janet (Frank) Romero, San Francisco, California, Gary (Lynette) Hupfer, Cadott, Heidi (Eugen) Briemle, Munstereifel, Germany, Jennifer (Paul Herwig) Ilse, Minneapolis, Minnesota, sister, Mildred Schmidt, California. Bud is further survived by 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife - Jean, and son - Craig. Funeral Services with full Military Honors for Bud Hupfer will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Redeemer Ev. Lutheran Church in Tomahawk. Rev. Mark Gass will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the hour of services at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow services at Greenwood Cemetery in Tomahawk.
