William D. Ostling passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 24, 2015 under the care of hospice in the home of his daughter in White Bear Lake, MN. Bill was born on June 4, 1933 in Barron, WI to Clarence and Violet (Nelson) Ostling. They soon moved to Prentice where he graduated from Prentice High School in 1951. Bill joined the National Guard during high school and served for nine years. Bill and his wife Joanne (Carlson) were high school sweethearts, marrying in 1956. Immediately after their marriage he was drafted and served in the Army, stationed in Germany. They had two children, Wayne and Lynne.
Shortly after his stint in the army, Bill was hired by Leo Heikkinen to work for Prentice Hydraulics. He stayed with the company through an acquisition by Omark Industries. He retired in 1990 as General Manager overseeing plants in Prentice, Spencer and Owatonna, MN. Bill was a respected member of the Logging Equipment industry.
Bill also enjoyed serving the community of Prentice. Bill served as a leader with the Boy Scouts. He was active in the Prentice Lions club. Bill was on the board of directors for the State Bank of Phillips as well as the Prentice Industrial Development Corp. He was a member of First Lutheran Church.
During retirement, Bill and Joanne spent their winters in DeBary, FL while enjoying their summers at Somo Lake in Tomahawk, WI. Most recently Bill and Joanne moved to Maplewood, MN.
Bill leaves behind his wife Joanne, his two children, Wayne (Brenda), Lynne (Tom), 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, September 28, 2015, at the First Lutheran Church in Prentice with Pastor Richard Hall officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Southern Price County V.F.W. Post No 8491. Inurnment will be in the Prentice Cemetery in Prentice. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
