William E. Korrer Sr.

September 15, 1922 — August 2, 2016

William “Bill” Korrer, Sr., age 93, formerly of Minocqua, passed away unexpectedly August 2, 2016 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King. Bill was born on September 15, 1922, son of Grover and Grace (McDermott) Korrer of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Bill is survived by his sister, Ann Silber of Del Mar, California. Bill is also survived by seven children; Bill Jr. “Beep” (Maggie Szostak) of Minocqua, Michael (Jaime) of Fond du Lac, Annie (Bunger) Leone of Hazelhurst, Robert “Scooby” (Tina) of West Chester, Ohio, Maggie (Mark) Espeseth of Woodruff, Liz (Doug) Olson of Minocqua, and Patrick of Minocqua; 15 grandchildren - Shannon Korrer (Scott Hauser), Amber Sprangers (Neil), Ashley Korrer (Dan McGowan), Dr. Michael Korrer (Kerry), Benjamin Korrer (Stephanie), Sarah Katzmark (Lucas), Katie Waite (Nathan), Robert Korrer, Jr., Samuel Korrer, Molly Korrer, Scott Zeinert, Leslie Westerhausen (Dan), Katie Hofmann (Patrick), Becca Zeinert, and Tate Olson. He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Isabel (Firth) Korrer and his parents, Grover and Grace.

Bill graduated from LP Goodrich High School in Fond du Lac with the Class of 1941. He was part of the “Greatest Generation” and served in the Pacific Theatre while a member of the US Army. Bill met Isabel Firth, his future wife, in 1946 while she was a student in East Lansing, Michigan at Michigan State College and he was a member of the US Army being mustered out of active duty.

They married on August 28, 1948 in Jackson, Michigan. After an early career with the Galloway-West Company, the entrepreneurial spirit moved Bill to purchase Kwik Kafe Vending Service in Fond du Lac and eventually the Little Minocqua Motel and Minocqua Yacht Club property on Lake Minocqua in 1972.

Bill was very active in civic organizations including the Boys Brigade in Neenah-Menasha, Boy Scouts, Lakeland Scenic Trails Snowmobile Club, Lakeland Tavern League, and the Minocqua Lions Club. Bill was also one of the cornerstones of the LP Goodrich Class of ’41 Reunion Committee. Bill and Isabel loved showing up at the class reunions in their nicely “preserved” 1938 Chevrolet.

Retirement found Bill and Isabel motor homing across the United States and eventually wintering in Yuma, Arizona. Bill and Isabel were very active with hospice fundraising in their Yuma retirement community. Together, they helped raise tens of thousands of dollars over their years there.

Health issues caused Bill and Isabel to become residents of the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, Wisconsin in 2011.

Celebration of Life Service will be on Thursday, August 11th at 6:30 PM at Nimsgern Funeral Home Chapel with a visitation from 4:30 PM till time of service.

To help preserve all those long hours and the hard work Bill put in with the Minocqua Lions, the family suggests you consider a donation to the Minocqua Lions Club instead of flowers.
