William “Bill” Howard Wiessner, 77, of Presque Isle, WI was called to his heavenly home on November 7, 2023. Born on January 16, 1946 to Clarence Wiessner and Elizabeth (Haase) Wiessner, in Blue Island, IL, Bill was raised alongside his younger brothers John and Walter. Bill earned his degree in Nursing from Elmhurst University, and a Master’s degree from Rush University in Chicago. A lifelong caregiver, Bill
spent 35 years as a critical care nurse at Rush Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center, and later at Marshfield Clinic in Park Falls.
Bill’s life changed forever when he walked into a restaurant in Presque Isle and met Margaret “Peggy” Johnson, owner and proprietress of Skyview Lodge and Supper Club. A six-year courtship followed with many trips between Blue Island and Presque Isle. His 55-year bachelorhood came to an official end on
October 14, 2000, in Green Lake, WI when Bill and Peggy were married surrounded by family. Bill was a formal man in both dress and manner however, and “Peggy” was always his Margaret. Together they spent twenty-three beautiful years in marriage, where they continued life’s adventures around the
world, while settling deeply into their family, faith and community. He was active as a director in the Presque Isle Lion’s Club and worked tirelessly as a volunteer for many projects in Presque Isle. A caregiver of all living things, he will be missed by his beloved dog Bow.
Bill is survived by his wife, Margaret (Peggy) Johnson Wiessner of Presque Isle, brothers John Wiessner of Marenisco, MI, and Walter (Bonnie) Wiessner of St. Petersburg, FL; stepchildren Adam Johnson (Danna) of Presque Isle, Bonnie Byrnes of Presque Isle; and Calvin (Sarah) Johnson of Arbor Vitae, WI.
Bill executed the transition from midlife bachelor to sudden grandfather beautifully, and will be dearly missed by Isabelle, Grayson and Callie Johnson; Aidan and Estelle Byrnes; and Cooper and Greta Johnson.
A family graveside service will take place on Tuesday, November 21, at 1:00pm at the Presque Isle Memorial Cemetery followed by a celebration of Bill’s life at the Outpost Café in Presque Isle at 1:30 for the community.
